This spring, Veidekke received a total of 2,100 applications from young people
aspiring to build a future in the construction industry as skilled workers or
engineers. This represents an increase of more than 360 percent over the past
three years. In addition, more than 1,100 engineering students applied for just
50 summer internship positions.

"We're extremely pleased to see so many young people wanting to join us.
Veidekke is Norway's largest construction and civil engineering company, and we
therefore need a strong influx of new, talented employees. The high number of
applicants is likely due to Veidekke's solid performance in recent years-despite
challenging times in the construction industry-and increased visibility through
our recruitment efforts," says Tommy Johansen, Head of Employer Branding at
Veidekke.

Veidekke plans to hire around 140 apprentices and 50 recent graduates from
universities and technical schools in Norway. Unfortunately, this means many
applicants will not receive an offer. At the same time, the company wanted more
candidates for apprenticeships in carpentry, asphalt, and concrete work in
certain regions.

"The competition for young talent is fierce-not only from other contractors and
consultants, but also from entirely different industries. This year, university
and college students ranked us as the most attractive employer among
contractors, and the same goes for apprentices and vocational students in
construction. While it's nice to perform well in such rankings, our top priority
is to recruit the right people," Johansen continues.

Veidekke has long worked to attract young engineers and skilled workers to both
the company and the industry. Since 2016, significant resources have been
invested in raising the status of vocational education and encouraging young
people-especially women-to choose careers in construction.

Approximately 20% of applicants to Veidekke's graduate engineering program are
women, which is slightly below the proportion of female graduates in the field.
"We're still fairly satisfied, as many women traditionally choose careers in
consulting. Among apprentice applicants, 14% are young women. That's actually
quite high and will, over time, help increase the proportion of female skilled
workers in our company. Today, that figure stands at just 3%," Johansen
concludes.
