Statsbygg and AF Gruppen have entered into an agreement for the execution phase
of the partial refurbishment of the old Viking Ship Museum at Bygdøy. The total
contract value is estimated at NOK 123 million excluding VAT.
The project is part of the overall New Viking Age Museum development, and the
old Viking Ship Museum will house key functions in the future museum complex,
including the main entrance, museum shop, educational spaces, and offices. The
project covers approximately 4,500 square metres of internal refurbishment.
The project will be carried out as a collaborative contract in close cooperation
with Statsbygg. Phase 1 has been ongoing for about a year, and Phase 2
(execution) is scheduled to start in June 2026, with expected completion in the
third quarter of 2027. If additional options are exercised, such as roof and
protected façade refurbishment, the total contract value will increase.
"Statsbygg and AF Gruppen have worked together in excellent collaboration on the
overall New Viking Age Museum project since spring 2021, and we are pleased to
now enter into a contract for the fourth sub-project in the development of the
new museum. This contract builds on our strong expertise in heritage
conservation and restoration of listed buildings," says Eirik Wraal, EVP for
Building, Energy and Environment at AF Gruppen.
