The project comprises approximately 15 kilometers of excavation and pipeline installation for drinking water and technical water. The project has high environmental demands, including requirements for the amount of renewable fuel used in production.

The new system is part of Gästrike Vatten's long-term investment in a solution for the drinking water supply in both Älvkarleby and Gävle municipalities. The aim is to heighten capacity, improve supply reliability and create conditions for continued regional growth.

"The pipelines are a key part of our joint investment in a secure and long-term sustainable water supply in Gävle and Älvkarleby. By building the systems together we create better conditions for using the right water for the right purpose and ensuring its supply, both now and for future generations," says Per Dahlhjelm, Project Department Program Manager, Gästrike Vatten.

The project is a traditional contract. Work will start in March 2026 and is expected to be completed in the autumn of 2028.

The project will be order registered in the first quarter 2026.
