Peab has been commissioned to rebuild and expand an office building in central Skövde to create a new jail. The customer is Lorentzon Våmb AB and the contract is worth SEK 763 million.
The new jail will be located at the entrance to Skövde from Gothenburg and will be a seven-story building consisting of just over 12,000 m2 with room for around 150 inmates. Together with the national transport unit the investment is expected to create up to 200 new jobs in Skövde.
"We're pleased and proud to have been entrusted by Lorentzon Våmb to now go into the production phase. Building a jail involves special requirements to ensure operations function in the long run. We can take advantage of our thorough experience of similar projects and benefit from the knowledge and solutions gained in other projects in the Group. This creates great value for both our client and the Prison and Probation Service," says Stellan Haraldsson, Region Manager Peab.
The project will be environmentally certified according to the environmental certification system BREEAM, level Excellent.
- From us at Lorentzon, we are grateful that the Prison and Probation Service has placed us this trust as a local actor. We have previously built both a university as well as a district court and a radio house. Together with Peab, we will now build the premises that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service needs," says Fredrik Johansson, Property Manager at Lorentzon Våmb.
This construction contract was preceded by a so-called phase 1 agreement where Peab was contracted to optimize the project with the right quality together with the customer and handle risks and uncertainties. The project is now entering phase 2, which entails signing a construction contract.
The project is a turnkey contract in partnering. Construction will begin in January 2026 and the project is expected to be completed in September 2028, after which Lorentzon Våmb will turn the building over to the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
The project will be order registered in the fourth quarter 2025.
