Ambea's climate targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The approval provides scientific confirmation that the Group's emission reduction targets are aligned with the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C goal and clear evidence that Ambea is at the forefront of the climate transition.

Ambea's new climate targets are science-based and have now been approved by Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The targets cover the entire Group and all markets in which Ambea operates - Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

"We have worked with the climate transition for many years, but now we have scientific proof of our progress. Sustainability is integrated into our business governance and is an integral part of our long-term responsibility, to ensure care that is sustainable for people, society and the environment," says Mark Jensen, President and CEO of Ambea.

The work is reported annually in Ambea's sustainability report and measured in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. From the 2025 Annual Report onwards, results will also be reported in line with the EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

Since 2019, Ambea's carbon emissions have been reduced by 44 per cent. The approved near-term targets mean that Ambea commits reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 58.8 per cent by 2034 within its own operations (Scope 1 and 2) and to reduce value-chain emissions (Scope 3) by 63.8 per cent per SEK million of value added during the same period, compared with 2024 levels.

Examples of tangible progress already visible include:

  • Electric vehicles: 71 per cent of the Group's vehicle fleet is now fully electric. The target is to exceed 90 per cent by 2026 and to completely phase out fossil-fuel vehicles. Company-owned vehicles accounted for about 5 per cent of Ambea's total emissions in 2024.
  • Green electricity: An increasing share of fossil-free electricity is used in Ambea's operations. Electricity accounted for just over 3 per cent of the Group's total emissions in 2024.
  • Climate-smart food: Emissions per meal are being reduced through smarter menu choices, less food waste and more plant-based and climate-friendly ingredients - without compromising on taste or nutrition. Food accounted for just over 50 per cent of Ambea's emissions in 2024.

"Having our targets approved by SBTi is an important step forward, but our work continues. We will continue to reduce our climate impact and make it relevant and engaging for both employees and care receivers to contribute to achieving our ambitious new goals. For us, sustainability is about engagement and accountability at every level - and we hope to inspire more care providers to join us on this journey," says Erika Enestad, Quality and Sustainability Director at Ambea.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global organisation that helps companies set climate targets in line with the latest climate science and the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. Read more at www.sciencebasedtargets.org.
